Warwick Community Playschool

Sunflowers

Our Sunflowers are our preschool children.  During their time in the preschool, the children will be developing their skills in preparation for their journey into school.

The Sunflower room is able to support children who are eligible for the Early Years Funding.  To check your eligibility, click here or speak to Jo, our manager who will try her best to help.  The playschool will need to see evidence of your eligible funding code as well as proof of address and your child's birth certificate.  We also have places for children who are fee paying. For our current fees, please contact the playschool.  Kingswood Catering can also provide a lunch for your child (you must order these by the Wednesday of the week before you want the meal).  We also have places for children who are fee paying and for families in receipt of childcare vouchers.

The team in our Sunflower room have a wide range of experiences and qualifications that provides the best learning environment for the children in our care.  The team are striving to meet the children's growing learning potential through an ever changing space that includes:

  • A covered garden
  • Access to the larger garden
  • Art and Messy room
  • Home 'corner'
  • Snack area
  • Floor space for different forms of pla
  • Child height toilets
  • Investigation space

The Sunflower curriculum is based heavily on hands on learning and encourages children to take risks.  Bob spends time with the Sunflowers working with tools, including his power tools and working on woodwork projects.   Carol and Nikki also spend time with the Sunflowers to support emotional well-being.

A vast majority of learning occurs during play that is supported and scaffolded by the skilled practitioners within the Sunflower team.  We then develop learning through our group time programme that includes:

  • Letters and Sounds
  • Read Write Inc
  • Dough Disco; and
  • Squiggle whilst you Wiggle

These programmes support future learning as children head into school.
